STRETCH FABRICS – ADVANTAGES AND FEATURES

Bi-stretch fabrics versus stretch fabrics

How is bi-stretch fabric, also known as 4-way stretch fabric, different from regular stretch? The question should rather be what bi-stretch is better at than stretch. Bi-stretch fabric is enriched with an admixture of elastane (latex). In addition to latex, it may consist of polyester or nylon. However, the key turns out to be the admixture of elastane is responsible for the unusual properties of bi-stretch fabrics, surpassing what classic stretches could offer.

Advantages of double-stretch fabrics

Bi-stretch fabric, although it may resemble ordinary stretch, is more elastic than it. The types of stretch can be easily distinguished by stretching the fabric in both directions. If it shows stretch in both the longitudinal and transverse directions, you will gain confidence that you are just dealing with 4-way stretch fabric. Increased elasticity, in turn, makes bi-stretch fabric suitable for purposes where monostretch did not meet expectations.

Use of 4-way stretch fabrics

Thanks to its increased elasticity, bi-stretch fabric effortlessly conforms to the body. It accentuates shapes and provides freedom of movement, while it does not deform with use and always returns to its original shape. These advantages make 4-way stretch fabric suitable for sewing everyday clothes as well as high-end professional garments. Thanks to its softness and pleasant touch, 4-way stretch fabric can be worn directly on the skin, and the feeling of users sewn from it is always positive.

New areas of application for double-stretch fabrics

In addition to everyday clothing, bi-stretch fabric finds various applications, depending on the weight of the material. The thinnest fabrics of this type (Lua, Stella) are used for sewing women’s confections, including evening creations and workwear, where it is necessary to maintain the greatest possible freedom of movement. Thicker materials (Shellflex Pro 200 and Shellflex Pro 230) excel in clothing for outdoor activities, including those for representatives of various services (including clothing for uniformed personnel). Such clothing, despite repeated use, retains its original properties and provides full mobility.

New properties of stretch fabrics

Double-stretch fabric is undoubtedly a versatile and comfortable material already in wide use. However, work is currently underway to introduce a new version of it, Aquaflex, which is a double-stretch fabric with permanent water resistance. This means that the fabric retains its properties even after repeated washing. This is ensured by the cross linking technique, which strengthens the water resistance. This change has been much requested by many garment manufacturers and customers who rely on the comfort of use, durability and strength of used garments.
